First Windows Phone 8 Builds Revealed

The guys from WP7Forum.ru have managed to get their hands on a couple of Windows Phone 8 builds and were kind enough in sharing with the rest of us.

Apparently pulled from an app that has been spotted as running on various “weird” builds, the leaked Apollo build are believed to be Windows Phone 8 related and we’ll just have to wait until June to get confirmation on that.

Starting with build 8.0.9666 all the way to 8.0.9688, it does seem that the cropped builds might be running on actual devices instead of emulators.

MVPs Get Nokia Devices with Apollo and Windows Phone 7

Windows Phone MVPs have recently been contacted by Nokia via email with the express mention that they’ll be receiving a free Windows Phone device provided they do some “charity” work and promote the OS at conferences and events.

The same emailed notification also mentions that Windows Phone 8 handsets will he handed out as well as soon as they become available, to all those “worthy” of the giveaway.

Of course, we didn’t make the list, but all is not lost since we’re probably going to get our hands on an Apollo device along with everyone else (hopefully).

Windows Phone 8 Revealed in June With Nokia Hardware?

Windows Phone 8 is due to be in the media’s eye sooner that anyone would have expected as Techit reported that Microsoft is scheduled to make an official public announcement in June.

Probably part of the Windows Phone Developer Summit, Apollo will be revealed along with what we’re hoping to be some new hardware.

A SDK and possibly an emulator will definitely be available to developers so that app experimentation can be done until the official Windows Phone 8 launch, rumored to be this late Q4.

Sprint Looking Forward to Windows Phone 8

Sprint has not been the number one fan when it comes to Windows Phone and its handsets, but it seems that they’re pretty excited about the prospect of sporting Apollo devices.

After only harboring the HTC Arrive and then dismissing it in favor of iPhone devices, one might believe that Sprint is showing no love to Windows Phone.

David Owens, Sprint’s director of consumer acquisitions has recently made a statement the CTIA trade show, saying that he will “still bullish on Apollo”.

Developer Conference Revealed Windows Phone 8 Details

We had always assumed that Windows Phone 8 will be launched by the end of the year, but now we finally have confirmation that it could be arriving on devices as soon as November-December 2012.

The WP DevCon that’s scheduled for October 22-24th in Burlingame, CA has revealed that one of the main topics will be how to develop apps for Windows Phone 8 and how to program around the new hardware specs.

Also, this is the first time that we’ve actually seem the multiple resolution support being mentioned, meaning that Windows Phone 8 handsets will indeed be coming in all shapes and sizes.

Windows Phone 8 Metro Apps Compatible With Windows 8

Metro style apps for Windows 8 have been known to be compatible with Windows Phone 8 for a quite a while, but now we seem to have confirmation on that.

The October session at the SiliconValley Codecamp_12 hosted by Microsoft MVP Lino Taldros seems to hint that Metro apps for Windows 8 will be cross-platform compatible with Windows Phone 8.

Considering that Windows 8 doesn’t support Silverlight apps, it only makes sense that XNA will completely replace Silverlight in the development of Windows Phone 8 apps if developers wish them to be available on Windows 8 as well.

Samsung And HTC Thinking Of Next Generation Windows Phones?

When talking about Windows Phone 8 and the next generation of handsets, everyone seems to have forgotten about Samsung and HTC and fall attention is focused on Nokia instead.

However, these two OEM manufacturers also have a couple of Windows Phone handsets out there and it stands to reason that more will soon follow as soon as Apollo shows up.

One could envision that both HTC and Samsung might be refurbishing some of their successful Android models and equip them with Windows Phone 8.

Alleged Windows Phone 8 Handset And OS Leak Probably Fake

After yesterday’s fiasco with the leaked Windows Phone 8 OS that seemed to be running on a Nokia Lumia 900 (or an Apollo version of it), it seems that some of you didn’t believe that the photo was real.

A user by the alias of cPT.cAPSLOCK seems to have taken matters into his hands and decided to analyze the photo by means of a little Photoshop knowhow and has revealed that the photo could be a fake.

This comes as no shocker considering that we’ve seen forgeries before, but at least it’s nice to see that someone has managed to prove this.

Windows Phone 8 Handset And OS Leaked In Photo

The first leaked Windows Phone 8 (aka Apollo) handset has been revealed and it looks that Microsoft is currently testing an almost fully-functional version of their soon-to-be-released mobile OS.

The Apollo handset looks remarkably similar to the Nokia Lumia 900, although it doesn’t seem to feature any front or side buttons.

Strangely enough, this developer build of Windows Phone 8 seems to look very much the same as the currently available Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh, meaning that most of the Metro UI will probably make the transition.

Nokia appears to be making a comeback and as part of their new strategy for conquering the market share, they seem to be aiming at some hybrid smartphones and tablets that will revolutionize the way we look at gadgets.

Speaking for the Financial Times, Jorma Ollila (Nokia’s outgoing chairman) seems to indicate that although the competition has had an advantage for the past couple of years; Nokia is prepared to make a complete comeback.

Windows Phone 8 Handsets Coming To Saudi Arabia This October?

Nokia KSA seems to have been a fountain of interesting information lately, regarding Windows Phone 8 and its upcoming devices.

Another tweet about Nokia Lumia 900 availability in Saudi Arabia seems to have confirmed that Nokia is indeed preparing to launch some Apollo handsets this October that are even better than the Lumia 900.

Of course, the tweet is long since gone and Nokia has quickly removed any trace of it, but thanks to some timely screenshots you can actually view it below.

Samsung has kept a really low profile lately when it comes to Windows Phone and according to a recent rumor from WP-Life, it’s planning something big.

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S III is rumored to have a Windows Phone 8 counterpart that will sport much of the same hardware specs, to users delight.

With no specific launch date until now, Microsoft lead us to believe that Windows Phone 8 will be landing sometime in late 2012, but this new rumor seems to have turned things around.

LG Italy “Investigating” On Window Phone 8 Update for LG Optimus 7

LG Italy has answered on Twitter that a Windows Phone 8 upgrade for the LG Optimus 7 won’t be available for anyone.

As you can imagine, users had a hard time stomaching the news and as a result, LG Italy has been assaulted by complains on the issue, causing a timely retraction of their previous statement.

Stating that the previous comment was “an error”, they’re trying to calm everyone down by claiming that they’re currently “investigating” the issue.

Huawei Waiting For Windows Phone 8 To Release New Handsets

The Chinese OEM manufacturer, Huawei, has announced a while back that they’re more than interested in rolling out a couple of Windows Phone handsets for the Chinese market.

However, they’ve yet to make good on their promise and haven’t released any news about a potential Windows Phone handset that could be revealed at any time soon.

The guys from WPDang have it on good authority that Huawei has been distracted lately because of their ongoing efforts to promote their Android smartphones.
