Considering that Microsoft has been bragging with Mango for a long time and that they’ve continuously underlined the significant performance improvements that we’ll be putting to good use, we took it upon ourselves to test their claims.
The best way to test out Mango’s performance is by using the WP Bench app (most of you are pretty familiar with it by now) and of course, a Windows Phone device (a HTC HD7 in our case).
The following image speaks for itself, but in case you don’t believe your eyes, we’re also going to give a couple of facts (read: a written version of the results).
So, before Mango, the CPU sequential and parallel test showed 11353 and respectively, 10921. After running the same test with Windows Phone 7.5 installed, we got a whopping 8297 sequential and a 7873 parallel. Not to mention that the testing time before Mango was 22274 and afterwards we got 1617 (wow!!!).
If this wasn’t enough to get you convinced (personally, the CPU test alone got us more than excited), just wait until you see that Data memory and storage benchmark.
Prior to Mango, the memory clocked in at 13.37 MB/s and the storage were 4.9 MB/s with an overall testing time of 12096 milliseconds. (Now, brace yourself!) With a testing time of only 6270 milliseconds, the memory clocked in at 13.07 MB/s and the storage was ranged at the same whopping 13.07 MB/s (told you to brace yourself).
Finally, the GPU test (acceleration/fillrate) prior to Mango was, 672 frames with an average of 22 FPS and after updating to Windows Phone 7.5 we got 698 frames with an average of 23 FPS (pretty decent score if you ask us).
So, there you have it! If you thought you couldn’t see any major improvements with the naked eye, then now you have proof that Windows Phone 7.5 is way more optimized and more finely tuned than ever before.
We could be looking at a 20 to 30 percent overall performance increases, but then again, we guess it depends on the Windows Phone device you’re using. Still, we’re looking at some pretty sweet numbers, don’t you agree?
We’ll keep testing for other nifty tricks that the guys from Microsoft have been bragging about. Keep you posted.
