The first Windows Phone device that ZTE managed to ship out was the ZTE Tania and by all accounts, it’s a pretty smooth smartphone designed for the mid-range spectrum.
However, Lv Qianhao, head of handset strategy at ZTE, announced that since the company has exceeded its sales in 2011, this 2012 they’ll try to focus more on providing quality devices (read: high-end) rather than mid-range or low-end.
It stands to reason that ZTE will start working on more than one Windows Phone device since they’ve yet to announce anything comparing to the ZTE Tania for Europe or China.
Lv Qianhao said:
“If we say ZTE started out as a contractor, like those building mass housing that are value for money, then we want to be a developer of luxury high-end estates”
If by “luxury high-end estates” he means some high performance Windows Phones, then we strongly encourage them to pursue on the matter.
At the same time, it’s entire possible that ZTE has been waiting all this time for Windows Phone 8 to be released so that they can take advantage of a more potent mobile OS (same strategy that Sprint used) that had the chance to grow for a while.
So far, this is only speculation and we have no real proof that ZTE is indeed working on one or more Windows Phone devices.
It does stand to reason that since they’re planning something for Q3 of 2012 (around the same time when Windows Phone 8 is scheduled for launch), they could be holding off some Apollo-powered devices until then.
